Vision and Values

The School's Vision

During the 2018 summer term, our children, staff, governors and parents were consulted on the Christian Values they feel represent our school most. The school community choose the four values Compassion, Interior Posture, Compassion and Courage and Endurance.

Compassion

Compassion is responding to the feelings and actions of others with kindness.  Jesus was often “moved with compassion” and acted accordingly.  Compassion leads to a desire to do something good for someone else.

“You must love your neighbour as you love yourself.”  Luke 10:27b

Interior Posture

Someone who has a strong interior posture makes the right choice simply because it is the right choice.  God’s love for us and our love for him helps us to do what is right.  We love and serve others, because he first loved us.

‘The righteous care about justice for the poor."  Proverbs 29:7

Wisdom

Wisdom is a true understanding of the consequences of our thoughts, words and actions and an awareness of the true value of things.  It is rooted in a proper reverence for God, the source of all life and values.  Jesus told the parable of the ‘Rich Fool’; true happiness is found with God.

“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.”  1 Kings 4:29

Endurance and Courage

Jesus’ followers are challenged to think of life like a race.  However - NOT a short sprint but a marathon!  The bible says that we are made stronger for the future every time we endure and refuse to give up.

“You know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize.  Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize."  1 Corinthians 9:24

Statement of Religious Ethos

The following statement is taken from the school’s Articles of Government and is a statement of Religious Ethos:

Recognising its Christian Foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school best serves the community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It delivers an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith. The school promotes Christian values by providing children with opportunities to advance socially, emotionally, morally and spiritually. Children learn to embrace Christian values through the teachings of the Christian faith and the principles of the trust deed. The school staff is instrumental in demonstrating a commitment to the Christian ethos of the school and they provide an ideal which children accept and follow with enthusiasm.

School and the Church

Our school was originally affiliated to the old St. John’s Church on Tong Street, which is now used for purposes other than worship.

We have developed a strong bond with St. Christopher’s Church on Holme Wood and we regularly seek to maintain this valuable link in a variety of ways.  As we relocated to Bierley we are a bi-parochial church school. This means that the school will serve the Christian Education needs of two parishes, Tong/Holme Wood and Bierley. The bond which our school has with Holme Wood has been extended to include Bierley and has made our Christian influence stronger as a result.

We know that much of the true Christian ethos of our school originates in the influence which our churches have on the daily life in school.

As with all relationships, those worth keeping need continual two-way effort and encouragement.  We know that much of the true Christian ethos of our school originates in the influence which our churches have on the daily life in school. We are lucky that both of our vicars take an active part in promoting the interests of the school and are often to be seen performing a variety of roles in our everyday routines. In this way we continue to work closely with our two parishes to ensure that this church influence is as strong and effective as it possibly can be.
